The root shooter game has been a genre that has been introduced only by foreign developers. In addition, since the development of two rabbits, shooting and RPG at once, the difficulty of development is high, and there are rare cases of foreign developers, but there is a place where the supply cannot be followed.
It was natural that the domestic developer Nixon pushed into the root shooter market. Afterwards, 'First Dependent', which released the information little by little and finished the steam beta test, was evaluated that it was regrettable in the optimization and shooting of the gorgeous graphics, directing, and action that caught the eye.
'First Dependent' what will you learn through this steam test, and how will you develop the game in the future? Nixon prepared a joint interview with PD Lee Buffoon of 'First Defendant' at G-Star 2022, and he was able to take a look at the test and demonstration version.
■ Fun of character development and skill Up Q. I felt that the PS5 version was well optimized, but I was curious about the behind-the-scenes of development.
= At the end of October, the Steam beta test was over, and I had to prepare for G-Star immediately. The new experience that G-Star can give was PS5 demonstration and Korean dubbing, and I tried to take the most of the problems such as optimization and sound that was further pointed out. In addition to the PS5 demonstration, the dual-sense trigger and haptic were also supported.
The PS5 is more optimized than expected, and the display in the G-Star demonstration is an OLD product that supports 120Hz and VRR. So, by applying the function, it was possible to play more than 40 frames in 4K dynamic resolution, so it would have been able to play much softer and more comfortably.
At the time of launch, the company is planning to support various graphic quality such as quality priority, frame first, and balance mode. In addition, this time, only PS5 was prepared, and PS4 and XBOX are also being prepared in the future. The optimization of the PC version is also improving with the support of Intel, NVIDIA and AMD.
Q. I know that I have talked with the audience who demonstrated at G-Star site.
= I talked to a few minutes, but I asked my face and asked me that there was no big disappointment. Still, there was an opinion that the pad was unfamiliar, and the operation was a bit difficult.
Q. The vibration of the PS5 dual sense was slightly weak, so I felt sorry.
As mentioned earlier, the pad will not be 100% completed, but will gradually improve. It will emphasize the feeling when using the total flavor, skill and grappling hook.
On the other hand, there is a genre that requires a lot of play time, so there is a concern about fatigue. I am worried that the sensational feedback such as sound and vibration can be easily tired if it is too strong.
Q. The jump and landing motion was awkward and there was an inconvenience such as jumping regardless of the height when using the grappling hook. Overall, the completeness was a pity. How much is the current version?
= In addition to optimization, the most frequently received feedback is about jump motion. The second is that it is not reloaded during the sprint of power, but the motion will be more quality than it is now. The grappling hook is also trying to change the time by adjusting the time. This part also has high development priorities.
I think the current version is still a long way to go. Everybody knows what to do, and there are so many things to do. I still have a chin, so I want to increase my completeness in the future.
Q. I'm curious about the end content after the official launch.
= There is a challenge to a higher level while collecting and fostering characters, and the core content is raid. Currently, I want to go in the direction of further increasing the depth of character research. Among the feedback, the character skills were fixed and there was a lack of taste to play.
Q. Luther Shooter is a game where a lot of forms are entered when creating content. What do you think about adding content after the official launch?
= First, the goal is to release with sufficient completeness. After starting the beta test, one of the articles that I saw a lot in the community was that it would be ruined if it was released. Naturally, I have no intention of launching it as it is, and I am aiming to launch it internally.
Currently, the development team is preparing to respond to live services. It will go in the direction of fast updates and live services. However, I do not want to solve everything from the beginning, and I want to go in the direction of the right side by continuing the service and increasing the development personnel.
Q. The root shooter was a rare genre developed in Korea.
= In this IGC lecture, we presented a presentation on the topic, and I think we need three experiences and abilities to create a root shooter. Shooter battle, RPG, and operational ability. In the case of the case so far, no developers have started with all of this. All of them have been developed in a state with shortcomings and have suffered their own difficulties.
We also felt more difficult than we thought before developing. As a result, I looked at other games and studied that it was suitable for our game.
Q. I wonder how to improve the grappling hook specifically.
= There were so many improvement requirements. There was a reason for the internal time, but I felt that it was very different from the actual user's experience. There were a lot of demands for the park, but I would like to expand the options such as going up, hanging, and riding a wall at the arrival point.
The grappling hook is also used as a combat tool in addition to the current means of transportation, and there is a plan to create an object that can be interacted later. For reference, the use of melee attack was added in the process of preparing CBT, so the guide was not properly built in the tutorial. I think this is a bit unfortunate.
Q. It was a bit unfortunate that field content was only repeated missions. What are you thinking about as a content that will give you a liveliness in the field?
= It's not a game that aims for open world exploration. The graphics are misunderstood because the quality is high in the Unreal Engine 5 replacement process. However, how to do this expectation is the current homework. Currently, there are few types of missions, but in the future, we will increase the type and reinforce content. In addition, I want to improve the grappling hook more fun in terms of level design.
Q. Route shooter is also important to shoot, and this beta test showed a pity in shooting sense, balance between firearms, and personality. I wonder how to fill this shooting later.
= Our game is TPS, not FPS, so I don't want to dig into a shot of FPS, but I think it's a little lower internal eye level.
It coordinates how to distribute the weight of the skills and firearms inside, and I know that there is a lack of difference between firearms. However, the core of the game is the completion of the character, the use of the skill, and the strategic setting, so it is not wanted to cope with everything.
'First Defendant' is a character-oriented game. Therefore, it is not appropriate as an RPG to break all the content with shooting skills. It will be difficult to balance these guns, but the pure quality of the shooting will not be ahead of the fostering characters.
Q. How are you differentiated from the game of other root shooter genres in the global market?
= I think the important thing in this stage is perfection. Some pointed out that the feedback of this test is not differentiated. But in my opinion, there are not many games in the market and have some positions.
There were a lot of sounds in the community, and there were a lot of sounds, but there will be an issue for a long time to cover the disadvantages in the game, and the tasks should be made to make a game that can be more satisfying for those who are more satisfied.
In addition, those who agreed to the concept of our game were very higher than expected. After the test, 13,160 surveys were surveyed. The satisfaction was low in stories, sound effects, motion quality, and repeated missions, but more than 90%of their intentions wanted to play after launch. Therefore, it is important to narrow the gap between satisfaction and willingness. Personally, I personally think that differentiation will increase this completeness and strengthen the form of the concept that was first proposed.
Q. Compared to other companies' root shooter games, I think item farming is insufficient. How do you add it?
= Personally, I liked the fun of rooting and farming, so I tried to eat and eat a lot. However, there was an opinion that the tory was full, and the flow was cut off. Currently, there is no ability to eat and modify items and runes, but there is a plan to add it later.
For reference, the three tier weapons are not implemented in the test, but there is a weapon with a puck that provides a kind of additional ability. If these items are added, I think that the fun of farming will be higher than now.
Q. The successors have a difference in balance depending on the situation. Is this intended?
